A new chapter in James Walker's racing career begins this week
with the opening round of the 2010 Superleague Formula by Sonangol
at Silverstone. The Jersey racer recently announced he had
made the switch from the World Series by Renault to Superleague and
is now raring to get started.
James will get his hands on the Liverpool FC-liveried 750bhp
Superleague car this Thursday for a quick shakedown before the race
weekend gets started with practice sessions on Friday. James
has raced the car before, in 2008 when he won for Borussia Dortmund
in Jerez and put on a great show for Rangers at the
Nürburgring. This time though James is a 'Red'
through-and-through and has already been to Anfield to visit the
Premier League club he is racing for.
"It was fantastic to go up to Anfield and watch a game," said
James. "The guys invited me onto the pitch at half-time to
introduce me to the Liverpool fans which was an amazing
moment. They made me feel very welcome and I hope I can do
them proud on the race track."
James and his fellow competitors have an added incentive this year
in the form of a hefty winner's purse. All the drivers will have
their eyes fixed on the Superleague Formula prize fund, which this
year is over €5 million.
"The prize fund certainly adds a new dimension to it," commented
James. "It's a great incentive but I must say we all want to win
regardless of the money. Every driver races to win and it's no
different for me. I have some tough competition to face but
I'm more than ready for it."
Qualifying gets underway at Silverstone on Saturday at 1420hrs and
the first of Sunday's three races kicks off at 1100hrs.
